Organic September

What is Organic September?

Led by The Soil Association, Organic September is a month long, annual campaign that has a simple mission- to raise awareness of and provide education on organic food and farming. The aim is to highlight the many benefits of ‘going organic’, including; supporting biodiversity and wildlife; helping to combat climate change; maintaining high standards of animal welfare; reducing exposure to pesticides; access to food as it should be, and food that you can trust.

That said, regular supporters of Hilltop Honey will now that this is a campaign we are 100% behind!

… and how can you get involved?

So, how can you get involved? As The Soil Association says,

“Together, our small collective actions add up to make a real difference. Whether we're supporting local organic farmers and independent shops, growing our own nature-friendly veg at home, or taking steps to reduce our waste, taking a pledge for our planet this September can help to build a more sustainable future.”

The Soil Association also has a list of pledges that you can take, including one quick easy change we hope you’ll consider: Plant one bee friendly herb or flower this month. If you take this pledge, you can help to encourage wildlife in your garden or local area, promote biodiversity and boost soil health… not to mention the huge impact it will have on our buzzy friends, the bee!

There are many other smaller achievable pledges you can take- please do have a look and consider it!

How does Hilltop Honey support Organic September?

Organic farms are crucial for maintaining our wildlife and for benefiting the natural world. Our precious bees are 50% more abundant on organic farms, having lost much of their natural habitat over the last 60 years or so. 97% of wildflower meadows have disappeared thanks to pesticide use and habitat loss- that means numbers of bees have fallen significantly across the world- and if that’s not a good enough reason to go organic (and not just in September) then we don’t know what is!

We’re fiercely proud of our Organic Range here at Hilltop Honey- and every pot is a produce of organic agriculture, certified by the Soil Association. Every time you choose to buy from this range, you choose to support a way of farming with higher animal welfare standards that is better for the planet, wildlife and people. Not only that, but you directly contribute towards a better future for us all.

Highlights from our Organic Range

Of course, we love all the honeys in the Hilltop range, but as its Organic September, and because we’d love you to try more organic foods, we thought we’d highlight some of the best sellers from the range…

Organic Brazilian Mountain Honey: this one is foraged but bees from a mixture of wild blooms, sourced from beekeepers, across the mountainous terrain of Brazil. We love this for its beautifully dark amber colour and its floral flavour. Amazing!

Organic Limeflower Honey: made by bees that forage on the nectar of organic Linden trees, with a gorgeous light colour and a sensational citrus after taste. This one was simply made to bake into a soft and light lemon sponge!

Organic Acacia Honey: lovingly made by bees that forage on the nectar of organic Robina Pseudoacacia trees. This one has a very mild flavour and is excellent when paired with cheese.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to go organic… what better place to start than with honey?!
