The team here at Hilltop HQ are in a party mood once again, as we get ready to celebrate World Porridge Day with Honey! Every year on October 10th, the world unites in a bid to raise money for Mary’s Meals, a charity that was set up in Scotland to aid starving children in developing countries.
“Each nutritious mug of Mary’s Meals porridge served helps hungry children make the most of their education by giving hem the energy to concentrate and learn”- and this is definitely a cause we can get behind. So… we’re having a porridge party! Who’s joining us?
Three delicious ways to enjoy World Porridge Day
World Porridge Day is a great excuse for more honey! Here are just three delicious ways to make your porridge party perfect this year!
- Go back to basics. Simply drizzle your favourite honey over a steaming bowl of porridge and tuck in! Honestly, porridge was just made to pair with honey and there can’t be a better combination, especially now that the days are drawing in and the weather’s getting cooler.
for a delightful citrus twist- this one is perfect with a dash of cocoa powder added too, for an amazing chocolate orange vibe!
2. Add a cut comb. Honestly, you haven’t had porridge until you’ve tried it this way! There is just something so decadent (and so downright delicious!) about a bowl of porridge with super sweet and aromatic cut comb broken into chunks and stirred through. Yum, yum, YUM!

3. Top it off. Honey pairs so well with such a vast array of other toppings, that it just makes sense to try a few combinations on your porridge. We’re talking, walnuts (a classic painting) or sunflower seeds, raisins or banana, chocolate chips and peanut butter… So many to choose from- but here are our our top three honey and toppings combinations:
Our Organic Limeflower Honey, paired with sliced pairs or apple; Our Organic Honeydew Honey paired with toasted almond flakes, sliced banana and dried cranberries; Our Manuka Honey paired simply with a squeeze of lemon for a tangy powerhouse of a breakfast thats guaranteed to get you ready for the day!
Don’t just stick with porridge
Not a fan of porridge? No problem! As long as it’s made from oats, it still counts- which is great news for us! If you want to take part in World Porridge Day but you’re not a fan of Goldilocks’ favourite breakfast, try these ideas instead:
Flapjacks: We’re huge fans of the gooey, melt in your mouth kind… and yes, you guessed it- honey makes them oh-so special too!
Oatcakes: a savoury use for oats, and no less delicious. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, we like ours with cheese and honey… of course!
Smoothies: oats are SO good in a smoothie, and such a great way to grab a healthy breakfast in a pinch. Add bananas, honey (obviously!) and peanut butter and you’re good to go!
