World Bee Day

Save_The_Bees

May 20th is an extremely important date in the Hilltop Diary, because it’s World Bee Day- and this year we want YOU to celebrate with us. So, what’s it all about, and why should we care? Allow us to explain…

World Bee Day

Imagine a world without bees. To some, it might not seem like such a big deal, but to us- and luckily, to many others too!- it would be an absolute disaster. It would affect us all. Bees are incredibly important and not only because they provide us with such delicious honey; they actually have another, vital role to play: protecting our planet.

Bees are one of the world’s major pollinators, which means that they work hard each and every day to pollinate seeds so that we can grow crops. Without bees, there simply is no life. Bees contribute towards food security in ensuring that crops continue to grow; they maintain biodiversity and the health of local ecosystems; they help to mitigate climate change and environmental conservation.

Bees are amazing!

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s little wonder then that the UN agreed to take the protection of Bees seriously… and thus, World Bee Day was born.

What does World Bee Day mean for us?

Here at Hilltop Honey, you know we love our buzzing bees. We have a strict Bee Welfare Policy that means we always put their welfare and needs first- bees before profit, every time. We make sure we only work with beekeepers that adhere to our policy, and we donate 25% of profit from sales of our Adopt a bee scheme to the Honeypot Charity.

World Bee Day is important for us because it’s a chance for us to raise awareness of the importance of protecting bees and reinforces our over-arching mission:

As a business, we have a responsibility to safeguard the future for everyone; the planet, humans and bees.

How can YOU get involved?

We really want you to get behind World Bee Day this year- and every year! You know why bees are important, hopefully you enjoy the deliciously sweet goodness they bring to our food- now it’s time to give a little back, to protect them and the planet. How, you may ask? Adopt a Bee.

If you love honey and you love bees- you need this kit. Each Adopt a Bee pack comes with the following:

  • Welcome card
  • Sicker sheet
  • Certificate of adoption (you also get to name your bee!)
