Looking for a quick, indulgent treat that’s as good on pancakes as it is straight from the pan? Caramelised bananas are your answer. With just a few simple ingredients, you can turn humble bananas into a rich, golden delight — perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a cheeky late-night snack.
Caramelised bananas are ripe bananas cooked in butter, sugar or honey until they become warm, soft, and coated in a rich, caramel-like sauce. The natural sugars in the fruit and honey combine to create a dessert that’s as comforting as it is delicious.
“I love them served on my porridge or chia pudding, you can also add them to toast with a dollop of nut butter and yogurt.” – Hemali @thesouregg
1 banana (ripe, with a few brown spots)
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp Hilltop Organic Blossom Honey
Warm the Honey – In a fry pan, place the Hilltop Organic Blossom Honey and cinnamon powder, then put the gas on a low heat.
Add the Bananas – Slice the banana into rounds or lengthwise halves (your choice), then place the slices on top of the honey and cinnamon mixture. Cover with a lid.
Caramelise – After 3-4 minutes, the honey will start to caramelise, and the bananas will begin to smell beautifully aromatic.
Flip and Finish – Flip the banana slices so both sides are evenly caramelised and coated. Cover again if you want them extra soft and syrupy.
Over Ice Cream – For a classic dessert, serve warm bananas over vanilla ice cream.
With Pancakes or Waffles – Add them as a topping for your breakfast favourites.
On Toast – Spread nut butter on toast and top with caramelised bananas for a sweet twist.
As a Standalone Dessert – Serve them warm with a dollop of whipped cream.
